About Hex Command NOVA (Beta)

Put anything in your epic-era or sci-fantasy military miniatures into a game that makes sense on the company-level.

HCN are rules for future-era combat for use with any miniatures and vehicles in the 28mm or "hero" scale.  Originally called "Quarter Master,"  Hex Command NOVA are rules for sci/fantasy miniature war games. The casting of "spells" and other aspects of "magic" will only be permitted in this system if they have some form of believable military/technological explanation.

The goal of these rules is to enable anything in your inventory of sci-fantasy miniatures to be put into a meaningful squad-level or skirmish combat system.

In HCN, you'll see drop ships, grav-tanks and conventional vehicles and tanks, hovercraft and land speeders, aerospace fighters, drones and more.

This module for HCM was created to bring the features of the Hex Command system to an off-world setting. An example of this position is the military equipment seen in the films Blade Runner, Aliens and Avatar.

In this "futurist" era just about every squad has various abilities from regular grunts with (projectile firing) pulse rifles to specialist squads, astro-geological and biochem-mechanical engineers.

Conventional concepts and weapons are the same as Hex Command Mechanized and the settings range from jungle, desert, arctic and other Earth-type planets to asteroids and gaseous worlds. Alien species range from animalistic to cyborg, reptilian and insect. In NOVA just like Mechanized, vehicles -whether walking or not- range from very light to very heavy. Tracking damage is either by rostercard and pencil, computer database or via the usual game table markers we already use.  Damage is easy to record so you are not spending your game time holding a pencil or endlessly counting off hits.  With a typical game of 3-5 mechs and 5-8 squads plus sundry vehicles, the games take less than two hours to play.

What is the basic storyline?

Hex Command NOVA rules based on Hex Command Mechanized so gamers don't have to learn a whole new system. The concept for HCN is simply to enjoy the Hex Command game system using the proliferation of sci-fantasy figures and terrain, and the vast assortment of stories and adventures.  NOVA is actually worth the time to play and we think it's a better answer.  Download Hex Command Mechanized and understand it, then download the Hex Command NOVA module (booklet version click here) If you're not yet a member, sign up by clicking Members on the home page then click Join.
