HCG Clarity: Firing/Moving Combat Process

Here is the process for clarity of the Combat Process:

  • Technically, all units are given order markers each turn for either HOLD or MOVE.

  • Check for officer hits at all times during combats.

  • Remember to always mark items that fire.

  • Remember in Rifled musket era, units can fire twice.

  • Players fire non-moving items anytime during the turn.

  1. Players roll for Initiative. Winning player is A player who reveals order markers and explains first, followed by B player who also reveals and explains order markers.

  2. Both players can elect to fire now and at any time during the turn, any non-moving units.

  3. Player A fires units that will move in the turn. These hits are felt/caused to targets before they return fire. This is the reason for winning initiative aside from moving before the opponent does.

  4. Player A moves all units, during which Player B can declare he STOP before continuing a units move: then fire any non-moving unit that hasn't already fired at it.

  5. Player A fires all units that ended/reached the end of their distance for the turn (this does NOT mean they are "no longer moving" and does NOT mean a unit is "stationary.")

  6. Once all Player A moving units are fired, Player B repeats the process starting at #2 above with the following changes highlighted.

    1. Both players can elect to fire now, any non-moving units.

    2. Player B fires units that will move in the turn. (removed: These hits are felt/caused to targets before they return fire. This is the reason for winning initiative aside from moving before the opponent does.)

    3. Player B moves all units, during which Player A can declare he STOP before continuing a units move: then fire any non-moving unit that hasn't already fired at it.

    4. Player B fires all units that ended/reached the end of their distance for the turn (this does NOT mean they are "no longer moving" and does NOT mean a unit is "stationary.")

Once Player A and B units have all moved and fired the turn ends for those activated units and the next groups in the sequence roll for initiative to see who's next group in the sequence activates before the opponents next group. Note these may not be facing each other and may be in totally different locations of the game table.

Note this note may be updated for further clarity.
