9-28-18 Pea Ridge Roads Finished

Roads are now in place and some extra material was needed so it was cut from Foamies Craft Foam; mostly all the existing road shapes were usable, or the road layout according to the map was tweaked a bit to fit the existing stock of road shapes for 2.5" hexagons.

Note however, that being strict about matching the roads to the hexagon grid is not as necessary as you might think; it's very labor intensive if you keep your road shapes to the hex grid and will be much harder to get right. So the solution is just to let the roads "float" above the grid and ignore the grid layout- its much easier. Cut the road shapes you need sure, but don't worry about matching the shapes to the grid. Once the roads are down, you can see how to count to move things on the road anyway because essentially the size of each unit base is about 1 hex already.

Now, the challenge is to mark all the roads on the bottom then re-assemble them as they are, on a 6x5 table. This method worked with the Jurassic Park game road layout, though marking on the top of the road was done with tiny stickers and the damn things wouldn't peel off.. that was very frustrating. It is so funny.. when you DON'T want stuff to stick it does. Its like if you don't want it to rain carry an umbrella.

Anyway, as the roads are cut from readily-available foamies, when the shapes are placed entirely new shapes can be cut as a whole to replace those individual pieces on the table; e.g. intersections combined with curves: just cut a new piece of the intersection with the curve(s) or other shapes you need attached, and put that down instead. Pull the pieces up and trace them on a sheet of foamies then cut out. It will make re-applying at the con much easier because the shape will be custom for this game scenario.

Foamies shape templates example: in one case, the small curve on the right 2nd from the top needed to be cut in half; of all the shapes I have in stock I didnt think of needing a tiny curve like that, but now I do. This is the beauty of using craft foamies for making roads and rivers.
